Work in progress

On the 28th of September as part of DemArt training at Bethlen Theater, organised by ProProgressione we got to do our first open work in progress presentation.

A summer season has passed since we first tested some of our ideas on some of our friends in a closed session at Trafó. Also we got the news that our project has been selected by the regional committee of Circus Next. What a pleasure!

To be honest we had very good feelings about our application we handed in. Or to be specific, we felt this is the best we can do. Here ióI share some snippets from the texts that we have written:

“In this together is the concept of a participatory circus show that at several points relies on the audience in order to happen at all. The basic intent is to extend the internal experiences of the artists to a wider public, to involve them close enough to let them experience the trust, focus and joy that is so intrinsic to our disciplines. This involves sharing some of the risk, in a controlled environment and is a major part of the research we intend to dive further into.”

Nice, no? I still get shivers…

So for our second work in progress presentation we tried to improve…

LIGHTS: headlamps did not work, they had a way to wide lightbeam, it was impossible to see where people were looking. So we got cute little flashlights that we can give to the public.

SOUND: Marton prepared some tracks for the presentation. We selected the most fitting just before and he mixed them life

COMMUNICATION: Well now it was not just our friends… so we had to explain to them who we are and what we are doing. So out of necessity an introduction was born. We invented some warm up games with the headlamps.

RIGGING: We realised that we have to skip the wall dance, as so few venues have a high enough riggable wall. But we have been looking for another way to fully give the counterweight to the public, because that was the aspect that thrilled everyone, including us.
